| AU Lecturer Made Fellow of a Royal
Society (London)
On 6 July 2004, the assembled general meeting committee elected
Dr. C. Gigante MacBaine, Bt., MBChB, DNM, MD, PhD (Dr. Mac -
Assistant Editor of the AU TechNote), as a Fellow of the prestigious
Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), London, UK.
RSM Fellows are senior consultant doctors, dentists, veterinarians,
biomedical scientists and other senior healthcare professionals
who must meet rigid standards such as: having made a significant
and distinctive contribution to medicine in teaching, research,
clinical and/or administrative ability, or for exceptional service
to patients, especially where supportive staffing is inadequate,
as well as nominations by two subscribing Fellows of the Society.
Fellowship is not normally awarded until the nominee has held
Membership for a minimum of ten years. The process by which
Members be awarded Fellowship of the Society is that they should
be nominated, proposed, seconded by two Fellows of the Society,
and decided upon by election of the assembled general meeting
committee. Fellows may vote, hold office and participate in
the governance of the Society, and are entitled to use the designation,
"FRSM".
