AU Lecturer Made Fellow of a Royal Society (London)

On 6 July 2004, the assembled general meeting committee elected Dr. C. Gigante MacBaine, Bt., MBChB, DNM, MD, PhD (Dr. Mac - Assistant Editor of the AU TechNote), as a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), London, UK.

RSM Fellows are senior consultant doctors, dentists, veterinarians, biomedical scientists and other senior healthcare professionals who must meet rigid standards such as: having made a significant and distinctive contribution to medicine in teaching, research, clinical and/or administrative ability, or for exceptional service to patients, especially where supportive staffing is inadequate, as well as nominations by two subscribing Fellows of the Society.

Fellowship is not normally awarded until the nominee has held Membership for a minimum of ten years. The process by which Members be awarded Fellowship of the Society is that they should be nominated, proposed, seconded by two Fellows of the Society, and decided upon by election of the assembled general meeting committee. Fellows may vote, hold office and participate in the governance of the Society, and are entitled to use the designation, "FRSM".
