The Abridged - 2nd Year Exhibition

The School of Architecture welcomed all students and faculty back to school with another exhibition by its second- year architecture students in the main lobby of A Building, Hua Mak Campus during 14-18 June 2004.

The students spent the final days of their summer vacation working on the exhibit entitled, "Abridged - 2nd Year Exhibition", with an extensive site model showing the context of interest, which is located at the Tak Sin BTS station. The presentation consisted of selected six-week projects from their second-year design studio, guided by A. Satanan Chanowanna, A. Pratana Klieopatiinon, A. Bundit Kanis-thakhon, and A. Alvaro Conti. The pre-designed research of the project could be approached from several directions. The site on the bank of Chao Phraya River staged an ever-dynamic situation for the exploration on the various issues present, for example; the dilemma between the Bangkok vs Thon Buri sides, the interactivity between the BTS sky train and the river boats, etc. In addition, being on the periphery of Rattanakosin Island demands a deeper criticism on the historical landscape. The "Abridged" project inquired students to examine the polarity at hand, such as in-between programmatic conditions and anti-cipating circumstantial architectural design systems, and to even-tually propose designs that bridge these special conditions in their own distinctive ways. The featured project by Ketsara Kitisook focused on the acoustical relationships found comprehensively at the site. Her design manipulated the sound interactions to attain more order and hierarchy.
