One of the main functions of Assumption University is to serve the nation by providing scientific and humanistic knowledge through research and interdisciplinary approaches. In order to recognize the outstanding performances by students involved in programs and activities, the S&T Faculty organized an award presentation ceremony for two important groups of students on 29 January 2003, in the Hall of Fame. These awards were conferred by Rev. Bro. Visith Srivichairatana, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The first event was the presen- tation of the Dean's Awards to Master degree graduates who exhibited excellent academic performance with a GPA of 3.75-4.00.
The second event was the presentation of @Science.Abac awards to high school students who won the individual and team Computer Programming Competitions. With this in mind, the S&T Faculty, together with the S&T Student Committee, organized the @SCIENCE.ABAC 2003 competition for high school students at Hua Mak Campus on 21-22 November 2003. This year we had about 300 high school students participating in the competition. In the past, this competition was named, "AUS-TECH Computing Challenge", and last year was the 7th year that this competition was organized.
The objectives of the competition were to:
(i) give an opportunity to high school students to show their capabilities on computer and mathematical knowledge,
(ii) encourage high school students to know and study science and technology, and
(iii) update new knowledge to high school students.
At the end of the competition, two sets of the winners were selected: one for the individual computer programming and the other for team computer programming.
