To meet the challenges of the changing requirements for the employment market, and the ever- increasing competition from not only local but also foreign educational institutions, the Faculty of Engineering must seek the ways and means to refresh and replenish itself in order to safeguard its strategic position as one of the leading engineering faculties in Thailand. Thus, to be proactive, the Faculty of Engineering should call upon the faculty and administrators at all levels to be involved in the key tasks of strategic management.
A two-day workshop aimed at facilitating the faculty members in crafting strategic plans and strategies for the future develop- ment of the Faculty was held on 1-2 February 2004 at AU Bang Na Campus, with the objective of translating the inspiration derived from the Vice President for Academic Affairs into reality. The program consisted of the Opening Speech by the Dean, Dr. Sudhiporn Patumtaewapibal, followed by lectures on: (i) Academic Standard by Asst. Prof. Dr. Teay Shaw Yun, Deputy Director, Center for Excellence, (ii) SWOT Analysis by Dr. Vindhai Cocracul, Deputy Vice President for Academic Affairs, (iii) Strategic Manage-ment Project: A Case Study from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras" by Dr. Sanjiva Rao Bhaganagarupu, and (iv) "Organization Culture: Managing the Managers" by Rev. Bro. Visith Srivichai-ratana, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The program continued with three departmental brainstorm-ing sessions, viz. Session I, Development of Mission, Vision and SWOT Analysis, Session II, Strategic Goals, Strategy Alternatives, Chosen Strategy and Rational for Chosen Strategy, Session III, Strategic Implementation and Control.
