The 4th Thai Local Wisdom Alcoholic Beverage Festival
One of the benefits of last year’s “The 3th Thai Wisdom Alcoholic Beverage Festival”, is that the Thai wisdom alcoholic beverages have become popular among the Thai people as well as the foreigners.
Since Thailand is an agricultural country, the Thai Government encourages the production of the agricultural produces, not just as raw materials, but also as value-added products such as traditional alcoholic beverages. This will help the farmers to increase the production and to transform the produces into higher-value products.
In order to help the farmers to be competitive at industrial level, the government issued the Ministry of Finance’s regulation to serve this purpose. In this connection, the Faculty of Biotechnology organized the 4 Thai Local Wisdom Alcoholic Beverages Festival” on 12- 13 September 2002 at the Hall of Fame, C Building. The main objective of this festival is to inspire and support local people to produce competitive products for the international markets. This festival featured the Thai local wisdom alcoholic beverage contest in the similar categories as those of last year.
These included the following:
- Thai local wisdom alcoholic beverages: ‘Ou’, ‘Sato’, modified ‘Sato’, and toddy.
- Distilled alcoholic beverages
- Wine: Grape wine, fruit wine, agricultural product wine, and sparking wine.
The Packaging Contest was also organized for the first time.
In addition, there was a seminar on, “The Government and the private sector’s efficiency to support and develop Thai local wisdom alcoholic beverages to be competitive in the international market”.
At the end of this festival, the Faculty of Biotechnology and the contestants offered the honor guests, the participants, and the AU students to taste all their alcoholic beverages on 13 September 2002 at the 8’h Wine Tasting Festival. Everybody enjoyed the happy moment and was excited by the 4th Thai Local Wisdom Alcoholic Beverage Contest’s results. The Faculty of Biotechnology hopes that this festival could inspire and support Thai local wisdom alcoholic beverages to be popular and compatible in the international market in the near future.
