Biotech Senior Field Trips

The Faculty of Biotechnology offered a course on Alcoholic Beverage Technology (AI 4221) for major-elective senior students for the first time during the second semester of 2001. In this course, these students not only learned from the classroom but they also had an opportunity to visit a few institutes and organizations during the field trips.

The first field trip was made on 25 January 2002 to the Rajamangala Institute of Technology, first to listen to the seminar on "The Future of Thai Fruit Wine under the Alcoholic Beverage's Free Trade Law". This seminar gave wide perspectives of the past, present, and future of alcoholic beverages. Then a presentation on "Free Trade Law" was delivered by honored guests, including Dr. Churdchai Cheow- tirakul, Dean of the AU Faculty of Biotechnology. At the end, the speakers provided their opinion on advantages and disadvantages of the Free Trade Law.

The second field trip was made on 8 February 2002 to the Excise Tax Department to visit the Alcoholic Beverage Analysis Laboratory where the methods of analysis of percentage of alcohol, free sulfer, and sugar were demonstrated.
