Biotech Junior Field Trips

To fulfill the requirements of the course on Processing of Agricultural Products II (AI 4208), and Industrial Food Processing II (FT 4108), registered students are required to make field trips to a number of institutes to fully understand the actual processes described in the classroom.

The first field trip was made on 23 January 2002 to the Institute of Food Research and Product Development, Kasetsart University to observe extrusion technology. There are many food products that have been processed such as artificial protein, cereals, snacks, instant baby food, etc. This kind of technology is of low-cost and energy-saving because the extruder works from providing raw materials, mixing ingredients, and cooking until finished products are obtained.

The second field trip was made on 31 January 2002 to the Rubber Research Institute of the Department of Agriculture to observe rubber technology. The process starts by mixing the latex until finished products such as rubber glove, and rubber dolls are obtained.

The third field trip was made on 2 February 2002 to the Department of Animal Husbandry, Kasetsart University Kamphaeng Saen campus to observe food technology. Such technology provides cost-saving by using raw materials that can be supplied within the locality. Research has been conducted on processing food into low cost products of high quality as well as healthy feed for animals.

The fourth field trip was made on 7 February 2002 to the Department of Textile, Faculty of Agro-Industry, Kasetsart University to observe textile technology. The students experienced silk screening process by themselves. The process starts with painting, followed by setting the block screen, and screening onto the cloth.
