Lecture Series

The School of Architecture has conducted a series of lectures since 2001. The lecturers comprised of many well-known architects, designers and educators from various institutions, local and abroad.

The first lecture for the year 2002 was organized on 17 January. Mr. Takuya Onishi, a graduate of the Architectural Association (AA), UK gave a talk on his research, "Inflatable Bubble Stabilizer". This research was done during his final years at AA. It concerned the way of stabilizing volatile buildings caused by major earthquakes with his inflatable structures so the victims could continue to inhabit them.

The second lecture was on 7 February when Prof. Waraluk Pansuwan of the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology spoke on "Smooth Space: Architecture after Technology". Her interest in the use of computer technology and its impact on the way we perceive and construct architecture has led to her design works and teaching path in Thailand. She integrates many tools outside the architec-ture field to create architectural form including the powerful animation software, MAYA, 3-D Prototyping Machine and web-based technology.

These lectures were a part of the School's year long "Lecture Series 2001" which is to be held once a month at Salle D'Expo. Details along with the schedule can be viewed on our website, www.arch.au.edu.
