The launch of the AU MALL was made to coincide with the commencement of the new academic year and first semester of 2004 -2005. Students traveling from Hua Mak campus on June 1,2004 were treated to a surprise when the coaches stopped right in front of the Mall and unloaded their precious cargo of students who gawked and glared at the spanking shops and their wares while salesmen showed and shouted their discount rates to attract customers.

Two new buildings were recently completed and added to the campus complex, the 2-storey AU MALL which houses restaurants, convenience stores, sports and gift shops, drug stores, beauty salons, laundry, video stores, a bakery and bank and the 3-storey cafeteria building whose first two floors are used mainly for catering of students with the 3rd floor to be later developed into an amphitheatre or a recreation centre.

Two more projects are in the offing. The first is the 10-storey buiding to be used exclusively as a car park which will acommodate 800 vehicles and this construction work will be completed by end of October this year. This will relieve the acute shortage of parking space currently experienced by faculty members, staff and students respectively.

The other project is the Olympic standard swimming pool for which ground-work has already been laid and its completion is expected in 2006 when Thailand will be making the bid to host the world universities swimming competition slated in the following year.

There are also plans to launch a 10-storey Srisakdi Charmonman IT. Building on August 20, 2004 replete with the latest equipments and accessories which will provide the most modern, advanced and comprehensive services and education on information technology. The building will also house Assumption Internet Distance Learning College (FL. 7), College of Internet Distance Education (Fl. 8), IT Skill Development Centre for the Blind, IT Skills Development Centre for Autistic Kids, IT. Skills Development Centre for Pre-Schoolers etc. The grand opening on August 20 will be presided over by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and the big event will be covered in the next issue of ABAC Today.
