Virtuoso Jimmy McKissic responded to an invitation from the President Emeritus by featuring in an exclusive piano and gospel songs recital at the John XIII Conference Concourse on March 20,2003 at 12 noon.
Presenting a selection of Schumann's piano arias and fantasy, McKissic's piano talents held the audience spellbound for his romantic interpretation of the composer's music. In his rendition of some of America's favorite gospel songs, Jimmy McKissic diffused high emotionalism through the intense tone of voice and expression.
The President Emeritus in his welcome address, told the audience that it was indeed Assumption University's honor to receive Jimmy McKissic for the fourth consecutive year and he also invited Jimmy to come back to the university as often as he'd like to render his recitals to the academic community. Rev. Brother Martin led the audience in greeting Jimmy by singing the "Happy Birthday" song, on the occasion of his sixty-third birthday (March 16, 2003) and at lunch the birthday celebrant received a bouquet of flowers from the President Emeritus.
At the close of Jimmy McKissic's talented performance, President Rev. Brother Bancha Saenghiran handed the artist a token of appreciation for his enthralling music. There was a commemorative group photograph with Jimmy McKissic before the featured artist and Assumption University administrators got together for a fellowship lunch at Le Coq d'Or, the Cathedral of Learning.
Jimmy McKissic is slated to perform at Carnegie Hall, New York on June 1,2003 and there is his open invitation to all of us to join him for that occasion.
