Dean of the Faculty of Arts Dr. Pimporn Chandee with faculty members savouring the public speaking contest organised by the Business English Department on September 1.

September 1, 2003 was observed as Business English Day for Semester 1/2003 and conjuncted with an activity by the Department of Business English to honor Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand. The activity in the form of a public speaking contest, challenged the ten student finalists to make their speeches on "What the Queen means to the people of Thailand."

At the preliminary impromptu speech round held on August 25, President Rev. Brother Bancha Saenghiran responding to the Department's invitation sampled some of the speeches by the students. He was obviously happy and quite reassured about the talents of the students and their levels of spoken English. In the final round, held at the Bang Na campus, Thai and international students alike could not but declaim the renown and charm of Her Majesty the Queen. There were a few poignant moments when the contestants brimming with emotions, spoke of their personal allegiances to the Queen.

With the tallying up of results, Mr.Olan an exchange student from Central Philippines University to the BBA's Department of Accounting, and Ms. Note Charoenpol an Assumption University Business English major, walked away with the top two prizes.

Featuring as Chief Guest at the event, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Dr. Pimporn Chandee expressed her admiration for all ten finalists, who she said, had not only displayed exquisite speaking skills, but also kept remarkable timing. She added her own note of adulation for the Queen, noting that her grace and good deeds had attracted the world's attention.

The panel of judges, all Business English lecturers, did a remarkable job in determining the best two speakers in the close contest among the ten finalists. The two project organizers, Uraiphan Nawinprasert and John Lancaster sighed deeply with satisfaction that yet another Business Day activity had come to an end with immensely impressive results.
