The M.A. (TRM) Program

I have been studying the Tourism Management Program at Assumption University since 2000 and I am hope-full that I will be able to get through all the subjects for which I have enrolled this semester. Completing this program will enable me to redesign my name shingle and print my new business card flaunting my post-graduate qualifications.

Even before joining the tourism course I have been working in a Japanese travel agency as secretary to the Managing Director for about 5 years. She is a Japanese lady who has been involved in this business for more than 30 years. Since our company is not big I have ample opportunities to learn every aspect of tourism work especially with reference to the Japanese concepts and their management style. Many times we went trail-blazing into hitherto undiscovered destinations for new package tours, much to the surprise and chagrin of our competitors. Frequently we drum up a new itinerary for a package and then print our own brochure followed by advertising in the Japanese news media. We also frequently double up as tourist guides for our package offers to ensure that we deliver every-thing according to specifications.

It is not too much of a hassle for me to be studying and working at the same time. Both my job and study are interesting and absorbing. I love to serve people, travel and learn new things. I am certain the curriculum of the tourism management program will facilitate my career advancement and spur me on to achieve my dream of setting up my own tourism business.
