WAI KRU CEREMONY, 2001

This is a traditional ceremony celebrated every year at all schools, colleges, institutes and universities throughout the Kingdom of Thailand. This year the ceremony was held at the King's Lawn in front of the Coronation Building and as usual a large number of students and faculty members participated making the occasion colorful, significant and memorable.

Wai Kru is part and parcel of Thai culture representing a moment when students feel a sense of obligation and respect toward, their leaders because they had acquired knowledge and training which had made them more and more aware of their ability to respond to various situations and, challenges of the society and the world in which they live. They realise the importance, the power and the potency of education and intellectual development.

To retain the respect and affection of students teachers must always keep reevaluating then-selves by asking such questions as: Am I doing my best for the students'? Am I also learning all the time to keep abreast of changes and developments, new theories and concepts in the subjects we specialise etc. Only if there are satisfactory answers to these critical questions can we teachers feel a sense of relief and fulfillment.
