INTERNATIONAL NIGHT !

The VIVA AMIGOS IV or the long live friendship celebration of love, peace and unity was organised on September 8, 2000 from 19.30 to 21.30 hrs. at the Assembly Hall. The national dances and songs presented on stage are getting better, grander and more sophisti-cated, so don’t be surprised if after another couple of years art critics adjudge performances at A.U. as the best in town in the category of amateur cultural shows.

As an international institution with a complement of over 1000 foreign students from various countries Assumption University is the melting-pot of diverse cultures and it is fitting that the International Centre should tap this potential for presentation of traditional customs and characteristics of countries both from the East and the West. The International Centre is the brainchild of our President, Rev. Bro. P. Martin Komolmas who says that it was established in accordance with the goals of enhancing international and intercultural understanding and cooperation and that the centre affirms the beliefthat diverse people can and must come together and work together in a world where national boundaries are becoming increasingly permeable because of economic and technological developments. Bro. Martin also ascribes the following as the philosophy of the International Centre: “It exists not to encourage cultural homogeneity but to bring peole together so that they can understand their differences as well as the underlying human unity that stands beneath these differences. It seeks not to encourage everyone to be the same, but to provide a common ground inwhich people from different cultures can exchange viewpoints and come to understand the world better by becoming aware of divergent perspectives.”
