The Sonkran Holidays this year ran for 5 days from April 13 to 17 and as usual this was a great occasion for merit-making activities such as offering of alms and food to monks, letting loose caged birds, releasing fish into rivers and streams, paying respects to high officials and senior citizens including parents, grandparents and relations. As against these traditional and civilized modes of celebration there were also much revelry and gambols involving splashing and throwing of water, teasing and taunting of passers-by, passengers on buses, train, singing dancing, drinking, etc.

Newspaper reports say that accident-related deaths during Songkran in the past three years were: 1999-53, 1998-98, 1997-137 respectively. Herewith pictures of Songkran festivities on Campus.
