Mr. Frank Skilbeck, Director of the World Travel & Tourism Council addressed the 450 Hospitality & Tourism major students at Assumption University on Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at the Assembly Hall.

His topic of discussion was “Hospitality &Tourism: A Challenge in the new Millenium”.

Frank Skilbeck, the WTTC Director said that Hospitality & Tourism Industry encompassing hotels, restaurants, conventions & meetings, recreation & entertainment, transport and services for travelers is the world’s largest business and the variety and volume of jobs it creates are mind-bog-gling. It is expected to generate US$ 4.4 trillion worth of economic activity (supply/ demand) and 231 million jobs (direct/indirect) worldwide in 1998, growing in value to $10.0 trillion and 328 million jobs by 2010. The sector is growing faster than the global economy as a whole.

The 450 hospitality & tourism major students and faculty members heard that only the booming hospitality & tourism industry has the ability to bring sustained growth and prosperity to countries of every size, economic development and political complexion.

WTTC is a global coalition of Chief Executive Officers from all sectors of the travel and tourism industry and the organization is based in London, UK.
