Extract from the Ambassador’s message on the National Day of Sri Lanka.
It is heartening to note the strengthening of bilateral relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka especially with the signing of the BIMST-EC Agreement in Bangkok in 1997. BIMST-EC is the first institutional link between South and Southeast Asia, and viewed as a gateway to greater mutual cooperation. The Joint Economic Commission between Thailand and Sri Lanka is expected to meet during the first half of this year, to add a strong economic dimension to the renewed bilateral ties. The past year has been
decisively significant towards enhanced relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka, starting with the visits of Deputy Minister M.R. Suklumbhand Patribatra the Supreme Commander, the three service commanders and crowned by the visit of H.R.H. Princess Chulabhom in August ‘99.
