Rector of Assumptiom University Nominated to Education Reform Office.

The Royal Government of Thailand last year framed the National Education Act 1999, which was passed by both houses of the legislature. The Act envisages tremendous changes in the educational system and in the organisation and management of schools and higher education institu-tions and under section 74 ibid the Education Reform Office is required to deal with the following issues.

  1. Propose the structures, organs and division of responsibilities as provided in Chapter 5 of this Act.
  2. Propose systems of teachers and educational personnel as provided in Chapter 7 of this Act.
  3. Propose mobilization of educational resources and investment as provided in Chapter 8 of this Act.
  4. Submit proposals to the Council of Ministers regarding the necessary bills for actions required in (1), (2) and (3)
  5. Submit to the Council of Ministers proposals regarding amendments to legislations, rules, regulations, statutes and orders in force to meet the requirements in (1), (2) and (3) in accord with this Act.
  6. Carry out other functions as provided by the Public Organizations Act.

It is one of the laws that will affect the lives, standards and aspirations of Thai people and it is a matter of great honour and prestige that Dr. Prdthip Martin Komolmas, President of Assumption University is appointed as one of the nine members of the Executive Committee of the Education Reform Office as proposed by the specially established nominating committee.
