His Majesty The King's Birthday.

Now that the gorgeous celebrations, thunderous ovations, tremendous tributes, resounding prayers and plaudits showered on the occasion of the 6th cycle birth anniversary of H. M. King Bhumibhol Adulyadej the Great had subsided somewhat a little reflection is in order. A panoramic picture emerges of an entire nation in recumbent supplication, national and multinational corporate bodies joining in the jubilations, world leaders chiming in with cheers and congratulations and taken together it was a momentous, unparalleled event so marvelously organised and so neatly and perfectly executed. We now wish to reproduce the profound advice and pronouncements expressed and uttered by the Sovereign- on various stages and platforms which redound to His Majesty’s extraordinary insight and wisdom which had generated the loyally and devotion of the subjects throughout the realm.

On teaching.
“It is absolutely necessary to find effective teaching methods and theories that will enable students to think, understand and become convinced on their own, both in the content and in the theory of their subject. They should also be able to apply the theories they have learnt with a full understanding of their benefits.”

On learning.
“Your first step in learning must be learning in depth, doing detailed research into your chosen subject until your understanding is deep, clear, firm, and always progressive.”

On cooperation.
“Your may see that things are full of conflict. But when lessons are learnt or the wisdom of cooperation (is) understood, peaceful coexistence can be established, quarrels are settled, mutual enmity is appeased. The balance of nature is established.”

On military and police.
“The important thing is to gain the trust of local people by offering help... Let them know that people in uniform are not bad guys, not the persons who oppress them, but are humans who understand the people’s living conditions.. .Let them see that policemen and other officials are nice people and do not have any privileges; they are not the people’s masters but the people’s friends.”

On politics
“It is uncertain if destroying what already exists to make way for new things would always bring good results, because among the old things to be demolished there must be some good ones. Besides, there is no guarantee that the new things will be as good as expected. Having given this some thought, I believe creative changes should be made in a gentle manner, putting into consideration knowledge, thoughtfulness and reason. All parties should be allowed to cooperate- correct what should be corrected, promote what should be promoted, and create new things that fulfil aspirations.”

A poetry Recitation and Concert of Classical and Xmas Music in honour of H. M. the King’s Birthday was conducted at the Hall of Fame on December 22 attended by administrators led by Rector Dr. P. Martin Komolmas.   On November 28, a group of Assumption University lecturers and students presented a song entitled “Glory to You Gracious King” and it was broadcast live through Radio Chulalongkom, FM 101.5.
