Wai Kru Ceremony 1999
This traditional ceremony is observed annually in all schools universities and other educational establishments throughout the Kingdom of Thailand. Wai Kru was celebrated at Assumption university on June 24, 1999 with the participation of a large number of students and faculty member of students and faculty members in the King's Lawn in front of the C. Building. As the photos depicting the ceremony illustrate the celebrations were replete with auras of solemnity and vistas of splendour.
As Wai Kru is an annual affair at which students pay their respects to teachers through gestures, body language and intricate patterns of flowers it might be meaningful to associate the occasion with the reevaluation of the roles of teacher and a rededication to the ideals and the mission of education. The purpose of reevaluation will be to see whether as teachers we have performed our task and our responsibilities properly and conscientiously, whether we have provided quality education, moral guidance, or set personal examples or whether there were any shortcoming etc. This inner exercise should end with a thankful prayer if we pass the test with top grades and if otherwise with a solemn resolve to do better in the days ahead. As Shakepeare says in Julius Caeser. The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins Remorse from power. |
