NEW MASTER'S PROGRAM IN TESL/TEFL BEGINS. |

On June 7, 1998. First Orientation was held to inaugurate a joint venture in education for teachers of English as a seccond/foreign language. This new master’s degree will be conferred by St. Michael’s Winooski, Vermont USA, upon completion of a course of studies both here at Assumption University and at St. Michael’s. The photos are from the Signing Ceremony to solemmize the agreement and from the First Orientation itself.
Rev. Brother Bancha Saenghiran, Vice President for Academic Affairs signed the Addition to the Memorandum of Understanding for Assumption University, and Dr.Mahmoud Arani represented St. Michael’s. Professor Alan Maley, formerly of the University of Singapore, a well-known lecturer and writer in the field, is the Director of the program for Assumption, and Dr. Pimporn Chandee is the Deputy Director. Dr.Deryn Verity of St.Michael’s and Dr. Roger Moore of Assumption University’s Faculty of Arts were chosen as the instructors for the first semester. Drs. Stephen Conlon and Richard Johnson of the English Language Center had very much to do with the planning and preparations for this program, which has now been place under the jurisdiction of the Faculty of Arts. The first batch of 20 students are all currently employed as instructors at Assumption University who wish to upgrade their qualifications for their own good as well as for the benefit of the university and the students they serve. |
