Since 1996, an annual national contest of small software development projects has been conducted by National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. In 1996, a software developed by Mr. Tuiya Rayanak, a graduate student from Science and Technology Faculty, won the second prize from the contest.
On February 13, 1998, two team of S&T students from the department of computer science followed-steps of their pioneer by earning two prizes in the contest of software project funded in 1997. The project called "Thai Speech Synthesizer Software" developed by Traipong Chancharung, Nida Lao-hachai, Suwanna Saeheng and Keattisak Chatusen advised by Dr. Anucha Pitaksanonkul, won the first prize in "software tool" category. And the project called "Stat Net :Neural Network Software for Statistical Analysis" developed by Nittitum Kovitgoolkri, Nanthavut Chookit, Teeraporn Tiyapanijanit and Voraluck Pronsophon advised by Dr. Thitipong Tanprasert, won the second prize in "Application Software" category.
